Brett Carter aus Australien stammende Bariton studierte Gitarre und Gesang an der Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Anschließend gehörte er dem Australian Opera Studio an, wo er sich Partien wie Mozarts Graf Almaviva, Don Giovanni und Brittens Tarquinius aneignete. Nach Stipendien für die National Academy of Music in Melbourne und das Music Festival der University of Cincinnati in Lucca, einem Jahr im Young Artist Programme der Opera Queensland sowie dem Erhalt eines deutsch-australischen Opernstipendiums wurde Brett Carter fest am Hessischen Staatstheater in Wiesbaden verpflichtet.

Zu seinen dort gesungen Partien zählen Mozarts Papageno, Guglielmo, und Masetto, Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Puccinis Schaunard, und Ping, Falke (Die Fledermaus), Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos), Bill (Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny), Ulisse (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Mercurio (La Calisto), Leander (Die Liebe zu den Drei Orangen) und Ramiro (L’Heure espagnole). Daneben debütierte Brett Carter 2008/09 in der Produktion der Jungen Oper von Mozarts Zaïde als Allazim an der Staatsoper Stuttgart und 2010/11 in der Neuinszenierung von Pizzettis Murder in the Cathedral an der Oper Frankfurt.

Im Sommer 2012 debütierte er als Graf Almaviva an der Opera Melbourne in Australien und in 2016 gastiert er an der Opera Queensland in Australien eine Neuproduktion Il Barbiere di Siviglia als Figaro. Seit der Saison 2014/15 gehört Brett Carter zum Ensemble des Staatstheaters Mainz, wo er sich Partien erarbeitet wie u.a. Graf Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Nardo (La finta gardiniera), Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Demetrius (A Midsummer Nights Dream), Valentin (Faust), Marcello (La Boheme), Rodrigo (Don Carlos), Nabucco, Silvio (Pagliacci), Leander (Die Liebe zu den Drei Orangen), und Carmina Burana. Im Sommer 2018 für den Schwetzinger Festspiele war er in der Rolle Odysseus zu sehen und hören in einer Weltpremiere der Oper Argo.

Australian Baritone Brett Carter studied Classical Guitar and Voice at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He then became a member of the Australian Opera Studio where his roles included Mozart’s Conte Almaviva, Don Giovanni and Britten’s Tarquinius. After receiving a Scholarship to participate in the Cincinnati Music Festival in Lucca, Italy, he then went on to become a Young Artist with Opera Queensland. During this time he received first prize in the German Australian Opera Grant and from 2007- 2014 was a member of the Hessischen Staatstheater in Wiesbaden.

His roles with the company include Mozart’s Papageno, Guglielmo, and Masetto, Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Puccini’s Schaunard and Ping, Falke (Die Fledermaus), Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos), Bill (The Rise and Fall of the City Mahagonny), Ulisse (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Mercurio (La Calisto), Leander (The Love for Three Oranges), and Ramiro (L’Heure Espagnole). In 2008 he also made his debut with the Staatsoper Stuttgart as Allazim in Mozart’s Zaïde and in 2010 in a new production of Pizzetti’s Murder in the Cathedral with Oper Frankfurt.

In Summer 2012 Brett made his debut with Victorian Opera in a new production of Le nozze di Figaro as Conte Almaviva. In 2016 he sang the title role in a new production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Opera Queensland. Since the 2014/15 season, Brett is a member of the Staatstheater in Mainz where his roles include Figaro (Il Barbiere di Sivigilia), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Nardo (La finta gardiniera), Valentin (Faust), Marcello (La Boheme), Nabucco, Rodrigo (Don Carlos), Silvio (Pagliacci), Demetrius (A Midsummer Nights Dream), Leander (The Love for Three Oranges) and Carmina Burana. In 2018 Brett created the role of Odysseus in the world Premier of Argo for the Schwetzingen Music Festival.
